SBS: England: Death of child shaken 11 years ago

Inquest opened after death of 11-year-old girl shaken as baby

AN INQUEST into the death of an 11-year-old girl, who was permanently disabled after being shaken by her mum's boyfriend, has been opened.
Kealeigh-Anne Woolley was left blind, unable to talk and severely brain damaged after being attacked by Colin Heath in January 2000, when she was just seven months old.
Her mum Amanda found her dead in her bed on February 6 and a post mortem examination has not been able to establish a cause of death.
Police are investigating whether Kealeigh-Anne's death is linked to the shaking 11 years ago.
Her attacker, Heath, who is now in his late 30s, was jailed in 2000 for 18 months after admitting child cruelty and grievous bodily harm.
Opening the inquest yesterday, North Staffordshire Coroner Ian Smith said: "Kealeigh-Anne Jade Woolley was found dead at home by her mother Amanda Jane Wooley, who was her carer. The post mortem did not elicit a cause of death.
"Her mother is seeking an order for burial and the body will be released. The inquest is adjourned."
