PHOENIX - Police continue investigating the death of 2 year-old Janie Buelna.
The child was living with a custodial grandmother and her two roommates in an apartment near Interstate 17 and Camelback Road.
Officers responded to a 911 call from the apartment Friday night, where they found Janie unresponsive. Police say her caretakers waited 45 minutes to call 911 after Janie stopped breathing. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police reports don't pinpoint an exact cause of death, but do reveal extensive abuse, including evidence of shaken baby syndrome.
According to officers, Janie's injuries include a split lip, broken teeth, bruises on her head and severe burns. One of her grandmother's roommates admitted putting Janie in scalding water while he was high on methamphetamine.
Her grandmother, Juanita Rodriguez, and her two roommates, Christopher Lopez and Humelio Dominguez-Vazquez, were arrested on child abuse charges.
Officer's took another 3 year-old child, Janie's brother, from the home, and placed him in custody of Child Protective Services.
