SBS: Louisiana: James Brewer pleads guilty to attempted second degree

James Brewer, 24, of Doyline, pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder in a plea arrangement reached with the district attorney's office. A Webster grand jury indicted him in March 2009 on one count of first-degree murder.
District Judge Mike Craig ordered a presentence investigation. Brewer faces up to 50 years. He should be sentenced in April.
Brewer's daughter, Kaydance Davis, died of blunt force trauma, or shaken baby syndrome. An autopsy indicated she suffered injuries to the back of the head.
Brewer initially told sheriff's investigators his daughter fell off a bed. He later said he shook her to comfort her after she became fussy.
Although other adults lived in the home, Brewer was the only one there when Kaydance became unresponsive, authorities said
