CIRCLEVILLE — The death of a 10-month-old baby Thursday morning is suspected to be the result of Shaken Baby Syndrome, according to the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
Kyle Calton, son of Elizabeth Rutter, 24, of Armstrong Road near Laurelville, was pronounced dead just before 9 a.m. Thursday at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, when he was removed from life support.
According to Lt. Dale Parish, deputies received a 911 call about 1:06 a.m. Wednesday. When Deputy Branden Skaggs arrived on the scene, he immediately began rescue breathing efforts and the child was transported to Berger Hospital by ambulance.
Berger then transferred the child to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where doctors noted injuries consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome and reported it to the Sheriff’s Office, Parish said.
An autopsy will be performed by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office, he said. Preliminary results are expected sometime Friday afternoon.
Investigators are seeking Rutter’s boyfriend, Wayne “Wolf” Walker, age 44, most recently of Texas and California, for questioning to help fill in details of the circumstances leading up to the 911 call, Parish said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
