SBS: NY: Israel Garcia indicted

An Elmhurst father who irreparably injured his then 2-month-old baby pleaded guilty to assault and has agreed to help create an educational video on shaken baby syndrome, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.
Maria Gordillo, who suffered permanent life-threatening injuries in May, remains on life support.

Queens Supreme Court Justice Elisa Koenderman indicated she would sentence Isrrael Garcia, 28, to a determinate 14 years in prison at his sentencing, scheduled for Dec. 10.On May 28 an unresponsive Maria was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital. Once she was transferred New York University Hospital, it was discovered her brain and eyes were bleeding, she had multiple old rib fractures and various bruises, said Brown. Doctors linked the injuries to shaken baby syndrome.Later, Garcia admitted that he shook the baby on two separate occasions until she had stopped crying. On the second instance he shook her for about three minutes until she went limp. He attempted to revive her, then called 911.
