A Coweta County man charged in the beating death of his 5-week-old son was arraigned Tuesday in the county jail and assigned an Aug. 22 trial date, a prosecutor said.
Johnny Lee Edwards pleaded not guilty to malice murder, felony murder and two counts each of cruelty to children in the first degree and aggravated battery in the death of Austin Edwards, Assistant District Attorney Kevin McMurry said.
Edwards will face trial in Coweta Superior Court in Newnan.
Austin died Jan. 30 at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Police said the child had injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome. Doctors found broken bones and internal bleeding.
The state Division of Family and Children Services said it had prior contact with the family when the agency was called in over concerns that the parents would not follow a medical plan for the boy.
Austin was placed in the residence of his grandmother, with the parents permitted to live in the same residence. The parents were living with the infant in a pool house on the premises of the grandmother's home.
Johnny Lee Edwards trial was today, all he got was 30 years with posibility of parol. Yet, Austin lost his life at the age of 5 weeks and his twin sister will be disabled for the rest of her life. What kind of justice is this?
ReplyDeleteJohnny Lee's mother however was there from conception of these twins and the medical plan they were to follow for Austin was actually for both children because the mother would not stop doing drugs the entire pregnancy and the mother of the twins also took a whole bottle of Castor Oil to induce labor beginning of her 8th month of pregnancy and the mother in law of Johnny was contributing the drugs to her daughter and Johnny and Johnny was the only parent that would do around the clock feedings for the babies because their mother said that the mother f-ers can starve before I get out of bed. Both babies were very sick when they were born especially Austin cause he was born dead thanks to his mother and her drug use. Johnny was used as an escape goat for something that someone else did to these babies. Justice should be brought upon the mother as well.
ReplyDeleteJohnny never took care of his twins. I am a personal witness. Jessica was the one taking care of the twins constantly. It's funny how everyone wants to blame the one person who actually did for the children. Johnny would yell at the children for crying. Any man who can yell at an infant is a sorry son of a bitch.
