SBS: Nova Scotia: Michael McNish pleads guilty

April 7 2011
A Halifax-area man who shook his infant son last summer has pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated assault.
Michael Richard McNish, 28, of Ketch Harbour Road in Portuguese Cove entered the plea Wednesday in Halifax provincial court. He’ll be back before Judge Bill Digby for sentencing May 24.
McNish was arrested last June after a two-month-old boy was taken to the emergency department at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax by his parents. Hospital staff felt the child’s injuries were consistent with shaken-baby syndrome, so they contacted police in the early morning hours of June 23.
Investigators charged and released McNish on condition that he not have any contact with the child.
Police said the baby was expected to make a full recovery.
