YUMA, Ariz. (AP) — The parents of a 9-month-old Yuma infant have been arrested on child abuse charges after the infant was hospitalized with a severe case of shaken baby syndrome.
Yuma police Sgt. Clint Norred says the baby was having difficulty breathing and had bite marks on her cheek when officers were called on March 22. She was flown to Phoenix and diagnosed as an abuse victim. She is now in fair condition but her prognosis remains unclear and she may have life-long disabilities.
Norred says deputy U.S. Marshals arrested the parents on Monday on a warrant charging them with child abuse, aggravated assault and hindering prosecution.
