A 24-year-old man has been charged with aggravated child abuse after a 4-month-old boy in his care suffered shaken baby syndrome, police said.
Jamorris Brown was arrested Friday. He remained in jail today with bail set at $175,000.
The child "probably will need assistance for the rest of his life," police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said.
On March 31, Brown called 911 to say the baby wasn't breathing properly. The child was taken to a hospital and a scan showed bleeding to the brain, Davis said. A doctor determined the injuries were recent and consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
Brown's statements to police "were inconsistent with the evidence," Davis said. "His story changed multiple times."
