SIDS: Idaho: Wyatt Grenough acquitted

January 27, 2011
CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) - A Canyon County jury has acquitted a Caldwell man in the death of his infant daughter.
The Idaho Statesman reports a jury deliberated 90 minutes Wednesday before acquitting 26-year-old Wyatt Greenough of involuntary manslaughter in the Feb. 6, 2010 death of 3-month-old Meadow Nickel.
Meadow's mother, Betsy Nickel, had testified that she came home to find her daughter lifeless under a thick comforter and Greenough's arm. Prosecutor Chris Topmiller argued Greenough was legally drunk and knew it was dangerous when he went to bed with his daughter snuggled on his shoulder.
But Greenough's attorney, Lary Sisson, argued that jurors could not rule out Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and thus must have a reasonable doubt about whether a crime was committed.
