UNIONTOWN, Pa. -- A Fayette County couple has pleaded no contest to child endangerment charges after police said they were too drunk and high to notice their 2-month-old daughter dying of sudden infant death syndrome.
Jennifer Gaster and Daniel Martin II, both 31, of Brownsville, were accused of snorting cocaine and drinking the night before they found their baby dead in their Luzerne Township home.
The couple's defense attorney has said Gaster wasn't intoxicated, but Fayette County District Jack Heneks said Gaster told a 911 dispatcher, "I was so (expletive) drunk last night."
A Connellsville woman testified at a preliminary hearing that she and Gaster drank about a quarter-gallon of vodka the night before the baby was found and that Gaster and Martin snorted two lines of cocaine.
The couple will be sentenced Dec. 20 for child endangerment and reckless endangerment.
